The construction and improvements to the existing Bombay drainage system covering 21 km to mitigate flooding in the central business district by safely conveying flood waters to the Ngwerere stream. Specifically, the Bombay drainage works were constructed in the following segments: Segment 1, which is Bombay Main drain from Kamwala South to Mazyopa; Segment 2 covering Libala South to Evelyn Hone College; Segment 3 covering Lamya House to Garden; Segment 4 covering National Milling Company to Garden; Segment 5 covering Thorn Park to Garden.

CONTRUCTION PACKAGES 7&8

Construction of the Bombay Drain from Msisi and Kamwala South, through Kamwala trading Area, Central Business District, Fairview, Northmead and Garden Compound. The scope of work comprised strengthening and expanding the existing channel by lining it with concrete while also replacing and right sizing road culverts on Chongwe Road, Independence Avenue, Church Road, Great East Road, Manchinchi Road, Katima Mulilo and Kasangula Road. The project also provided to construction of energy dissipaters, trash trap and pedestrian crossings. 

CONSTRUCTION PACKAGE NUMBER 10

Construction Package Number 10 led to the construction of the Mazyopa Drian of 2.7kilometers to receive the discharge from the improved Bombay drain and mitigate flooding in Mazyopa area. The existing drain was strengthened and expanded by lining it with concrete while also constructing new vehicular and pedestrian bridges, trash traps and energy dissipaters.
